We RWUers are scattered around the globe and we each celebrate New Years in our own fashion. Mine is surrounded by snow, and others look out at palm trees. Our Zara Penney watched fireworks from Sydney Harbour, and I tapped a glass of champagne with my husband and teenagers (they were allowed a sip) in our living room.

As I look back at 2007 I feel a mixture of emotions. I became a published author, which was exciting, but I feel like it's just the beginning. If I was the kind of person who made resolutions, I would say, "I'm going to finish my third or fourth novel and get an agent. This will be my year to make it big with a New York publisher."

But I'm not the type to set guarantees for myself that I might not be able to fulfill. It's not from lack of confidence; I'm just being realistic. There are too many variables affecting the outcome of a writer's career.

I figure hope, hard work and luck will be enough.

Zara Penny sat on a boat Chumplet and thought of all her writing pals across the world - wondering if they were watching. It was wonderful, with a synchronised firework from bridge to skyscrapers over the city, set to music. Had a front line seat. The theme was Festival of Light and each boat had a year of special event. I was on 2007. Rather fortunate for me because since I moved from my previous genre to writing for grownups, my first offerings were accepted for publication, so like you I am anticipating bigger and better things but never take anything for granted.

Happy New Year everyone who is reading this blog.
