We RWUers are scattered around the globe and we each celebrate New Years in our own fashion. Mine is surrounded by snow, and others look out at palm trees. Our Zara Penney watched fireworks from Sydney Harbour, and I tapped a glass of champagne with my husband and teenagers (they were allowed a sip) in our living room.

As I look back at 2007 I feel a mixture of emotions. I became a published author, which was exciting, but I feel like it's just the beginning. If I was the kind of person who made resolutions, I would say, "I'm going to finish my third or fourth novel and get an agent. This will be my year to make it big with a New York publisher."

But I'm not the type to set guarantees for myself that I might not be able to fulfill. It's not from lack of confidence; I'm just being realistic. There are too many variables affecting the outcome of a writer's career.

I figure hope, hard work and luck will be enough.
